Week 8: October 24-28

This week was all about Halloween and bones!  We began the week by reading a book about animal skeletons in our literacy center. We pulled out some witch fingers to help us follow along as we read.

Outside fun with friends!

Silly static!
We learned about the Letter Xx this week! We looked at x-rays together and talked about the importance of bones. We tried to guess what animal x-rays were shown on the overhead projector.

In centers, we used noodles to create our own x-rays!

x is for X-ray!

We also worked together on the rug center with felt boards.

On Wednesday, we read a book called Walter's Wonderful Web. We looked at different shapes Walter used to create a truly wonderful and sturdy web. In centers, we created our own webs using white crayons and black water color.

Our leader held the flag high so we could practice our pledge of allegiance and salute the flag.

The witch fingers were a big hit, so we brought them back out on Thursday. We practiced writing uppercase and lowercase letters using a tray of grits and our witch fingers.

Demonstrating our "Xx" sound!
We also read about Spookley the Square pumpkin.

In centers, we created our own Spookley pumpkins.

Before we went outside, some friends worked on lining up their numbers in order.

On Friday, we explored with the light tables.

Music with Ms. Becca & Ms. Knudsen's class.

We also learned about the letter Jj this week! Jj is for jack-o-lantern! This led into a science investigation on Friday. We examined a pumpkin and turned it into a jack-o-lantern.

Turned into a jack-o-lantern just like that!

Week 8 was great!
We're looking forward to seeing our friends all dressed up on Halloween!
