Week 8: October 24-28

This week was all about Halloween and bones!  We began the week by reading a book about animal skeletons in our literacy center. We pulled out some witch fingers to help us follow along as we read.

Outside fun with friends!

Silly static!
We learned about the Letter Xx this week! We looked at x-rays together and talked about the importance of bones. We tried to guess what animal x-rays were shown on the overhead projector.

In centers, we used noodles to create our own x-rays!

x is for X-ray!

We also worked together on the rug center with felt boards.

On Wednesday, we read a book called Walter's Wonderful Web. We looked at different shapes Walter used to create a truly wonderful and sturdy web. In centers, we created our own webs using white crayons and black water color.

Our leader held the flag high so we could practice our pledge of allegiance and salute the flag.

The witch fingers were a big hit, so we brought them back out on Thursday. We practiced writing uppercase and lowercase letters using a tray of grits and our witch fingers.

Demonstrating our "Xx" sound!
We also read about Spookley the Square pumpkin.

In centers, we created our own Spookley pumpkins.

Before we went outside, some friends worked on lining up their numbers in order.

On Friday, we explored with the light tables.

Music with Ms. Becca & Ms. Knudsen's class.

We also learned about the letter Jj this week! Jj is for jack-o-lantern! This led into a science investigation on Friday. We examined a pumpkin and turned it into a jack-o-lantern.

Turned into a jack-o-lantern just like that!

Week 8 was great!
We're looking forward to seeing our friends all dressed up on Halloween!

Week 7- October 17-21

WELCOME BACK!

We missed these smiling faces during our time off for Hurricane Matthew and are glad to be back! It was an exciting week as we learned about Letters Dd and Oo, had fun with Clifford, and got back into our preschool routines.

We began our week by working on our fine motor and counting skills. We carefully stacked Cheerios on a spaghetti noodle and counted our Cheerios.  Our tallest tower had 39 Cheerios on it!

Tuesday was all about the letter Dd and our favorite big red dog, Clifford!

In our math center, we did some dog bone counting.

We also tried painting with different sized dog bones. It was a lot of fun (& messy)!

At our rug center, we built dog houses for Clifford and his friends.

After centers, we had a surprise visitor! Stormy, Mrs. Knudsen's foster dog, came to see our class. We sat very still and quiet as she walked around the circle to greet us.

We ended our dog day by putting on our Clifford ears (& noses) for a class picture.

On Wednesday, our tree got a little bit spookier when we added the ghosts we made.

We created Clifford faces!

In our math center, we played a candy corn counting game.

It was a beautiful day to play with our friends!

On Thursday, we learned about the letter Oo.

We read about animals who are awake at night in our literacy center. We learned they are called "nocturnal" animals.

We each got to choose a pair of glasses to help us read our book.

We were excited to find some "Oo" words in our book.

We also tried to sort words that begin with the "Oo" sound.

Friday was a fun-filled day!
During music class we got to sing Happy Birthday to our friend.

At center time, we opened up our Halloween discovery bin.

We created spooky pictures with some Halloween foam stickers.

We also played in the sand table.

After centers, we got to enjoy a special birthday snack!
Happy Birthday!
We were excited to do the share bag this week! Several friends took their turn to share something with our class.

It feels great to be back and we are thankful for another fun week at WIPP!
